The Botox Lip Flip is a simple treatment requiring anywhere from 4-6 units of Botox to help relax and EVERT the upper lip muscle (the Orbicularis Oris muscle). This procedure subtly enhances the lip size at rest (without adding any volume like it would with fillers), AND improves the appearance of the smile by preventing the lip from curling or tucking inside when smiling or laughing. The Lip Flip is one of the two treatments we use to help conceal a gummy smile.
The other treatment for gummy smile is a very simple injection in the muscle right underneath each nostril, (the Levator Labii Superioris muscles). Injecting approximately 2 units of Botox in each prevents the lip from coming up too much with smiling or laughing, helping to conceal the gums as well.
The procedure itself causes minimal to no pain.
The results for any Botox are not immediatey. Patients notice improvements anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks, and results last between 2-3 months. With any neuromodulator, the more given, the longer the effect lasts.
